Problems with Music Theory Content

If you’re having trouble accessing the online content for the Idiot’s Guides: Music Theory book, there’s a reason for that. The publisher, for some unknown reason, changed the URL for the online content and didn’t redirect from the previous links. Here’s the new URL: Make sure you click the READ MORE link to view all the BOOK EXTRAS. Sorry for this issue — this is not the first time the publisher has messed up the online content, and I am not happy about it.

I bought the book at B&N, and it appeared to me that the online course came with it. But it looks from the URL above that it has to be bought separately. Is this the case? If so — I think I was sort of misled.

Mary, the online course is part of the book, not an extra. We’ve had some trouble with the publisher keeping the links to that content available, however. For now, looks like the links are working again. Go to and access the online content there.

I also bought the book at Barnes & Noble and managed to get to the DK webpage as a redirect and from this page. However, when I clicked on the link on that page to download the audio material this is what I arrived at:

BlobNotFoundThe specified blob does not exist. RequestId:f26dcbee-0001-0011-2bb2-01c917000000 Time:2017-07-20T23:50:05.3941792Z

I used the contact form to contact HM at least two days ago and have not heard back from them.

Are you able to get them to fix the link? I picked this book because it has audio material, but I will return it because it is being sold under false pretenses (thru no fault of yours). I’d be sorry because your writing looks very user friendly.

Yes, our pals at DK are once again having website problems. In this case, when you click to download the audio files (for both the Music Theory and Singing books) you get the “BlobNotFound” message. Now, I don’t know anything about blobs, other than that old movie with a young Steve McQueen, but my contact tells me that DK just moved the site to a new host, which broke a bunch of links. The intrepid staff is busy trying to fix things (and they spend a lot of time fixing things that somebody else in the organization breaks), but do not yet have an ETA for when they will be fixed. Rest assured, they WILL be fixed, and of course the text in the book is completely unaffected by these online issues. I apologize on behalf of the publisher, and will post on my website when things are working again. Sorry about this, I’m as mad as everybody else about it — probably madder.

Irene (and everybody else affected), the publisher just got the download links fixed. Try it now, it should be working.
